A Guide to Improving your Patient Interaction and Outreach

Technology enables, but man disables by not taking advantage of opportunities given to him. As a Physicians today, you have many key touch points to increase and consequently improve your interactions with patients. Some are simple methods, some require a little bit of work, but what is the end advantage of it all? For one thing it makes you popular amongst patients;  and the side effect could lead you to get more business.

Second it helps educate and provide information to patients and people who may read just what they need, thanks to you! A little help goes a long way in accumulating blessings.

Third, contributing to the general knowledge resource of the community improves the very community you are part off, it encourages others to follow suit.

So now what do you need to do?

1. Reach out to many in the general audience: Start writing, the internet lets you update and express views, either as 160 character bursts on twitter, or a long blog detailing your experience.

Twitter: On twitter you can start putting up bursts of interesting cases you see, new techniques you here about, information about your local medical network which may help people in your area! Go onto www.twitter.com, register yourself and type away.

Blogging: Doing a lot of research which you think people should here about, or have an opinion which potential patients should here about, blog about it. Many people will find it online as they search for an information panacea for their problem and be happy to come across your blog.

2. Create a mechanism such that people can contact you: For a start, get a practice website. It helps you disseminate information about your services for people looking for the same. It isnt advertising, its a service, people today face many choices and are hampered by lack of information, improving their ability to find information quickly is beneficial to them.

On your website, dont only talk about you, tell the patients more about what diseases and disabilities you treat, what are the latest treatments, generic advice and maybe even help them going to right person if you werent involved.

Use tools like interactive patient forms which can be filled before the patient arrives at the center, saving time and giving you a heads up on the patients needs. Use query forms on the website so that people can ask you about their problems, patients their doubts; this gives the feeling to your patients that you are available to them 24/7 without actually being there. Technical Doctor encourages doctors to have their own websites through their initiative http://www.technicaldr.com/tdr/websites-for-doctors. We also offer advice and consulting to help your website create the best impact on your patients and potential clients.

3. Using Software tools: Use softwares which improve communications. Invest in software which doesnt just keep your records and accounts. The software should come with communications tools integrated and can be used with ease. Emailing of schedules and reports to patients is a must.

The software should also allow using SMSes to send reminders, alerts, prescription reminders etc. This is a new level of service, and patients will be thrilled to know there is always an alert to give them confidence in their moments of doubt.

Online Medical records allow patients to access their records remotely, insist on looking at software which promotes this feature if not today, but at least is compatible with this extension in the future. Technical Doctor provides EMR software products which come coupled with email, SMS and online EMRs. We encourage doctors to use these services to improve their service quality. You can see our products on http://www.technicaldr.com

4. Accessing data and messages on your phone: Today you may be using you phone to send SMSs, read emails and play games online. Why stop there, use it to drive business wherever you are. Neat and simple apps provide you fingertip information, coupled with your own website, or software they can become powerful tools in your hands to handle patients remotely.

Access patient alerts via the phone or your actual software to pull up data remotely. Technical Doctor already has a suite of products and apps which can run on phone browsers.

5. Contribute to journals and medical website online: Numerous sources are present where doctors submit their stories, research and experiences. The medical and patient community will be greatly benefited by your inputs, a little effort online will show you exactly where you should be adding your data.

6. Using new cool online tools to make education interesting: Nowadays making a presentation, cartoon strip or a cartoon movie to help educate your patients or interested clients is easy. Many tools are available online which let you render very interesting collaterals that can help ease patient doubts and also make it fun. Tools like www.bitstrips.com which we use to make cartoons helps in creating awareness in an educational yet informal way. Putting these up on your clinic facebook page or on your website is the best option.

These are just some pointers on how technology can help you as a doctor to interact with patients and also general public looking for information in your areas of expertise. Its time to exercise your power using technology, so see you out there soon.

9 must have apps for your new Android phone

1. Chrome Remote Desktop
Sometimes you need to access your computer while youre nowhere near it, but you have a phone! You just need to anticipate this eventuality before it comes up. There are plenty of options, but you should use Chrome Remote Desktop. As long as the Chrome service is running on your computer, Chrome Remote Desktop will be able to connect. The performance is surprisingly good, even over a cellular connection. Chrome Remote Desktop doesnt have as many features as some apps, but its free and extremely reliable.
Chrome Remote Desktop (free)

2. Pushbullet
Pushbullet is the best way to send (i.e. push) text, files, and links between your devices. That includes your desktop PC, a Chromebook, and even your verified friends devices. More than that, it also mirrors your notifications from Android to a desktop computer, allowing you to take action on them without even touching the phone. That includes something as simple as dismissing a new email popup or actually responding to an SMS from the Pushbullet desktop client.
Pushbullet also includes indispensable features like universal copy-and-paste, newsfeed-like Pushbullet channels, and remote file access. The basic functionality is free, but a $5 monthly or $40 yearly Pro upgrade is required for a few features like unlimited SMS replies and universal copy-and-paste.
Pushbullet (free)

3. Authy

Even with the most spectacularly secure password, you are not completely safe from account hacks. The best way to keep your accounts secure is to use two-factor authentication (2FA), and Google accounts play nice with 2FA. Well, kind of nice. Two-factor auth is a bit of a pain to use, but Authy makes it much easier. This app can act as an authenticator for any service that supports open 2FA systems.
You can register Authy with your mobile number, then use the app generates codes for services like Google, Dropbox, and many others (once 2FA is activated). Authy is a huge improvement over other 2FA apps because it can sync the encrypted authentication tokens across all your devices including phones, tablets, and computers. Set it up once, and youll always have your 2FA codes close at hand.
Authy (free)

4. Solid Explorer File Manager
Even with all of Androids sleek modern design and features, there are times when you need to dig into the file system. The built-in file managers that come with most phones are rather basic, so you should grab Solid Explorer. It has a dual-pane interface with support for local files and archives, but also cloud storage (Dropbox, Drive, etc.) and remote clients like FTP and WebDav. This app is updated frequently with new features as well. Solid Explorer comes with a free 14-day trial, after which it costs $1.99. Its well worth the price.
Solid Explorer File Manager (free trial, $1.99 upgrade)
5. Snapseed
That photo you snapped looks okay, but what if you want to crop it or add an artsy filter before you post it on your social network of choice? Most phones come with rudimentary image editing capabilities, but Snapseed is better at it. This app has a clean, touchscreen-friendly interface that makes it easy to tweak the saturation, brightness, and other basic photo qualities.
You can also crop, rotate, add text, and more. Many phones support RAW photo capture now, and Snapseed can open those files as well. That means your edits will be much more high-quality compared to reprocessing an already compressed normal JPEG file. Google has been updating Snapseed consistently and its still completely free.
Snapseed (free)
6. Backdrops
Every phone comes with a few stock wallpapers, but they usually stick to one or two different styles. If thats not your thing, youll have to go elsewhere. You should definitely grab Backdrops in that caseits the best wallpaper catalog available in app form.
It has hundreds of background images available, many of which are exclusively created for the app. The app is free to use if you dont mind ads, or you can upgrade to the full version to get rid of them and gain access to saving images offline and a few premium background collections.
Backdrops (free, $0.99 upgrade)
7. Focus
The stock gallery app on your phone cannot match the fantastic feature set and great design of Focus. This app displays your images in their folder locations like most gallery apps, but it also has a great tagging system to make it even easier to find important pics. Theres even fingerprint security to keep people from snooping in your photos.
Focus is completely free with a $2.99 in-app upgrade that adds a dark theme, custom tags, and a cool secure photo vault. Images you want to keep private can be locked away from prying eyes in the vault.
Focus (free, $2.99 in-app upgrade)
8. Weather Timeline
There are probably 100,000 weather apps on Android that put the conditions in widgets, your status bar, and even in the quick settings. Out of all those apps, Weather Timeline is the best. It doesnt get too fancy; its just a great weather app with handsome widgets.
As the name implies, the conditions are forecast are laid out in a timeline. That makes it easy to scroll through hourly and extended forecasts. If you want more info, Weather Timeline has data (and graphs) for precipitation, humidity, wind, and more. Theres also a time machine feature that lets you look at probable weather in the more distant future based on past patterns. Its absolutely worth the small up-front price.
Weather Timeline ($0.99)
9. Pocket Casts
Finding and managing podcasts on Android used to be an agonizing process, but Pocket Casts was one of the first apps to get it right. The developers have kept up with all the latest Android features, ensuring that it remains an essential app for any phone. Finding new podcasts is a snap with recommended feeds, Google Nearby sharing, and a search function. Signing up for an account also backs up all your podcast subscriptions so you can sync them to multiple devices. Your listening progress also syncs along with the subscriptions.

5 GoogleAdsenseGuide Google Adsense add to your Website

How to add Google AdSense to your Website

As a website owner, you may decide that you wish to add Google AdSense advertising to your website.

What is Google AdSense?

You can think of AdSense as a new business opportunity. Its completely free. Yes, its an opportunity for you to make money from your own website. The advertising programme is made up of 2 key elements:
  • AdSense for Content
  • AdSense for Search

    AdSense for Content

    Google AdSense is a quick and easy way for website owners to display Google Ads on their website. When people visit your website and click the Google Ads, you get paid money. Simple!

    The advertising served up by Google is related to what your visitors are looking for on your site. In other words, its context sensitive. For example, if your website is about recruitment, then you can be pretty sure that the presentation of Ads by Goooooogle on your site will also be about recruitment.

    In fact, its even better than that. Google AdSense is looking at the content of each and every web page on your website. So, this means that the content of the Google Advertising will align with the information on each web page in your site.

    Its completely automatic and you dont need to worry about it.

    AdSense for Search

    This feature will allow you to add a Google Search Bar to your own website. So, this means that visitors to your website can use the Google Search Bar and search for information contained in your site.

    And whats more, when a search is performed, the search engine returns Google AdSense advertising in the search results. Once again, its fully automatic and the advertisements are directly related to the search query.

    Now heres the good bit! When people click your Search Ads (these are the sponsored ads), you are paid money. Its a pay per click scheme, so you can make money as people use your search bar.

    For example, if you search for hotels on the moon, this means that the Ads by Goooooogle in the search results will also be about hotels on the moon.

    Dont worry if you are not using search technology directly within your site. Once again, its all taken care of. For example, it will work perfectly well on a simple HTML site.

    Join: Google AdSense

    Can I use AdSense at Quick on the Net?

    Yes indeed, the www.QuickontheNet.com site-builder supports the use of Google AdSense.

    Yes, you can use both Content and Search in your site and we also provide you with our own site search feature in our websites. In other words, all of our websites come with a free site search tool anyway.

    How do I put Google AdSense on my Website?

    Firstly, you need to SIGN-UP to Quick on the Net and SIGN-UP to Google AdSense.

    Now, log into the AdSense toolkit and go to Content or Search, according to your preference. For example, if you wish to display some advertising in your site, go to AdSense for Content.

    Select your options from:
  • Ad unit or Link unit
  • Format
  • Colours (Colour palettes - select a default palette or create a unique palette for your own website)
  • Your AdSense Code (this is the code you will copy and paste onto your web page)

    Now, log into your toolkit at Quick on the Net and go to:
  • Pages
  • Edit the web page which where you intend to paste in the code
  • Click on <>
  • Paste in the AdSense Code
  • Save the page
  • Simple!

    Now Relax and Make Some Money!

    Have you done it yet? What are you waiting for? Make Money the Easy Way!

    8 Gifts you can get the computer enthusiasts in your life that theyll appreciate

    If you have someone in your life whose life revolves around their computer and you dont know what to give themthis is Uncle Toms list of 8 non-computer items a computer enthusiast will find helpful.

    Ive used computers personally for close to 30 years now. This is what Id find useful as a gift:

    1. Brother P-Touch labeler and extra batteries and label tape. The enthusiast will have lots of items that look identical and theyll need to know which one is which. Your gift helps distinguish them at a glance.

    2. Power strip. You can never have enough outlets. Get one with a long cord, too.

    3. A shredder that can handle DVDs and CDs.

    4. A $50 Amazon gift card. Theyll need to order something after the holidays.

    5. Stand alone physical kitchen timer with a loud annoying bell. This is for when theyre engrossed on-line, yet doing laundry or cooking at the same time.

    6. Ream of copy paper. Occasionally theyll need to print something. Sometimes theyll even need to print it on nice paper for someone else to look at.

    7. A box of Zip-Loc style bags and a box of snap-top containers. This goes well with Present #1.The enthusiast will have lots of small items they need to keep separate from each other.

    8. A box of personalized Post-It or Sticky type notes. The P-Touch is for permanent labeling situations. Your enthusiasts will need to make quick temporary notes on many occasions.

    Feel free to add your suggestions in the comments.

    A Better Method for Embedding YouTube Videos on your Website

    It is easy to embed a YouTube video but youll be surprised to know how much extra weight that embedded YouTube video can add to your web pages. The browser has to download about half a Mb of extra JavaScript files (see screenshot) for rendering the YouTube video player alone. And these files are downloaded even if the visitor never plays the embedded video.

    The embedded video not only increases the byte size of your web pages but the browser has to make multiple HTTP requests to render the video player. This increases the overall loading time of your page thus affecting the page speed score. The other drawback with the default YouTube embed code is that it isnt responsive. If people view your website on a mobile phone, the video player may not resize properly for the small screen.

    Embed YouTube Videos without Increasing Page Size

    Google+ uses a clever technique for embedding YouTube videos it just embeds the thumbnail image of a YouTube video and the actual video player is loaded only when the user manually clicks the thumbnail.

    YouTube thumbnail images are about 15 kB in size so we are able to reduce the byte size of web pages by 500+ kb. Thats huge!

    The video above is embedded using the same on-demand technique (demo).

    When a visitor clicks the play button, the thumbnail image is replaced with the standard YouTube video player with autoplay set to 1 so the plays the video instantly. The advantage is that the extra YouTube JavaScript gets loaded only when someone decides to watch the embedded video and not otherwise.

    Light and Responsive YouTube Embeds

    The standard embed code for YouTube uses the IFRAME tag and the width and height of the video player are hard-coded thus making the player non-responsive.

    The new on-demand embed code for YouTube is slightly different. You need not specify the player size as we are now embedding the video responsively. Also, the IFRAME is replaced with a DIV tag and the IFRAME is added to the page only when the visitor clicks the play button.

    YouTube Embed Code

    Embed YouTube Videos Responsively  Tutorial

    Copy-paste the following snippet anywhere in your web page where you would like the YouTube video to appear. Remember to replace VIDEO_ID with the actual ID of the YouTube video.

    <div class="youtube-player" data-id="VIDEO_ID"></div>

    We will not assign height and width since the video player will automatically occupy the width of the parent while the height is auto-calculated. You can paste multiple DIV blocks with different video IDs if you need to embed multiple videos on the same page.

    Next, place the JavaScript anywhere in your web template. It finds all embedded videos on a web page and then replaces the DIV elements with the video thumbnails.

    <script>

    /* Light YouTube Embeds by @labnol */
    /* Web: http://ift.tt/2bGFoam */

    document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded",
    function() {
    var div, n,
    v = document.getElementsByClassName("youtube-player");
    for (n = 0; n < v.length; n++) {
    div = document.createElement("div");
    div.setAttribute("data-id", v[n].dataset.id);
    div.innerHTML = labnolThumb(v[n].dataset.id);
    div.onclick = labnolIframe;
    v[n].appendChild(div);
    }
    });

    function labnolThumb(id) {
    var thumb = <img src="http://ift.tt/2bGFpex;,
    play = <div class="play"></div>;
    return thumb.replace("ID", id) + play;
    }

    function labnolIframe() {
    var iframe = document.createElement("iframe");
    var embed = "https://www.youtube.com/embed/ID?autoplay=1";
    iframe.setAttribute("src", embed.replace("ID", this.dataset.id);
    iframe.setAttribute("frameborder", "0");
    iframe.setAttribute("allowfullscreen", "1");
    this.parentNode.replaceChild(iframe, this);
    }

    </script>

    Finally, paste the CSS before the closing head tag of your web template.

    This method will reduce the size of your web pages by 500 KB while making your site mobile friendly. You may refer to the annotated code to understanding how on-demand embedding works.

    <style>
    .youtube-player {
    position: relative;
    padding-bottom: 56.23%;
    /* Use 75% for 4:3 videos */
    height: 0;
    overflow: hidden;
    max-width: 100%;
    background: #000;
    margin: 5px;
    }

    .youtube-player iframe {
    position: absolute;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
    width: 100%;
    height: 100%;
    z-index: 100;
    background: transparent;
    }

    .youtube-player img {
    bottom: 0;
    display: block;
    left: 0;
    margin: auto;
    max-width: 100%;
    width: 100%;
    position: absolute;
    right: 0;
    top: 0;
    border: none;
    height: auto;
    cursor: pointer;
    -webkit-transition: .4s all;
    -moz-transition: .4s all;
    transition: .4s all;
    }

    .youtube-player img:hover {
    -webkit-filter: brightness(75%);
    }

    .youtube-player .play {
    height: 72px;
    width: 72px;
    left: 50%;
    top: 50%;
    margin-left: -36px;
    margin-top: -36px;
    position: absolute;
    background: url("//i.imgur.com/TxzC70f.png") no-repeat;
    cursor: pointer;
    }

    </style>

    Please do note that Chrome and Safari browsers on iPhone and Android only allow playback of HTML5 video when initiated by a user interaction. They block embedded media from automatic playback to prevent unsolicited downloads over cellular networks.

    7 Factors to Consider Whether Your Investment is a Value Trap

    7 Factors to Consider Whether Your Investment is a Value Trap

    1. Earnings and Cash Flow

    If a stocks price is very cheap compared to past earnings this is a warning sign. Past earnings have little effect on the future price of an investment. The markets are looking forward to discount future cash flows. If an investment has fallen to the point where it is absurdly cheap compared to past earnings, that is a clue something is deeply wrong.

    2. Business Plan

    Beware of a business plan that is not understandable or is unprofitable. If a company is unable to make profits or has a plan that is complicated and hard to explain avoid it.
    Bypass companies whose business plan has been outdated by new technologies.  If a product or service is outdated it doesnt really matter how many other good attributes the company has; it will most likely fail. Technological obsolescence is a common misfortune of many business plans.

    3. Management

    Poor management can sink almost any company. If management is selling stock, giving guidance that is untrustworthy, or cutting the dividend; beware. These would be signs of a possible value trap.
    Look for management that owns their companys stock; insider buying is a positive sign. Quality management will give trustworthy guidance and demonstrate they have the knowledge to successfully guide the company.

    4. Accounting

    Producing complicated or fraudulent company accounting  reports often means there is additional hidden problems. Any hint of fraud should eliminate an investment from consideration for purchase. This usually results in further declines in the stock or bond price.
    Real value investments will have transparent financial reports and credibility with investors. Quality companies with sound management will demonstrate openness and honesty with their successes and failures.

    5. Balance Sheet / Debt

    The balance sheet may be more important than the income statement for sorting out value traps. High debt can cause problems with liquidity and solvency that can sink an otherwise good business plan. A highly leveraged company has less leeway for making mistakes or overcoming obstacles.
    A strong balance sheet is the foundation of a quality company and provides a margin of safety. When a company faces adverse conditions a conservative capital structure gives them the financial flexibility to meet the challenges.

    6. Strategic Advantages

    A company that lacks strategic advantages to overcome tough competition or heavy regulations can lose their ability to compete. In todays cutthroat global markets a company must have sustainable competitive advantages. Before purchasing a cheap stock be sure the company has competitive advantages that will provide the cash flow and growth needed to raise the price of the stock.
    Does the company have the ability to stay ahead because they are a market leader, have economies of scale, pricing power, differentiation of product, cost benefits, or have powerful brands. Without one or more competitive advantages the company may not be able to thrive.

    7. Look Forward Instead of Backwards

    A stock may look cheap when compared to its past earnings. But the market values companies on future earnings and growth of those earnings.  What a company has earned in the past will have little to do with its value today.

    Most financial sites quote P/E ratios based on past earnings. Looking forward means estimating future earnings and cash flows; then comparing those metrics, not past metrics, to the current price

    6 Ways To Optimize Your Blog Posts For SEO

    If you have a blog, chances are you already understand the importance of business blogging. But do you know how to optimize your blog posts to make them more search engine friendly?
    The truth is, many bloggers fail to take advantage of the enormous marketing potential of their blogs. In fact, a recent study by blogger.com shows that although roughly 60% of businesses have blogs, 65% of those blog owners havent even updated in the past year! By providing fresh, relevant content and performing basic blog post optimization, you can take advantage of the many benefits blogging offers
    Here are six easy search engine optimization (SEO) tips to help get your blog noticed.
    1. Do your research. Keyword research is essential for on page optimization. Chances are you are naturally including keywords without realizing it simply by providing valuable content on a topic. However, there are a variety of tools and techniques for finding related keywords relevant to your blog post that you may not have considered. The Google Adwords Keyword Tool and semrush.com both offer great tools that allow you to find keywords related to your topic and even spy on your competition to see what words and phrases they are targeting to bring traffic to their sites.

    2. Utilize keywords throughout your post. Once you have targeted a couple of valuable, relevant keywords, it is important to place them where they will have the most impact for humans and search engine crawlers indexing your content. Try to include them in the following places:
      • Title
      • Headings and subheadings
      • Introductory sentence
      • Concluding paragraph
      • Anchor text (text you hyperlink to other related pages on your site)
      • Title tags and meta descriptions
      A word of caution: Dont engage in keyword stuffing, which is the act of filling your content with so many keywords that it becomes difficult to read. Not only will this irritate your blog followers, it will also get you penalized by Google. A couple of strategically placed keywords will do the trick.
    3. Optimize your images. Whenever you upload a photo to your blog, be sure to include keywords in the file name and fill out the alternate text field with a brief, keyword rich description of the photo.

    4. Reference others with links. When you mention another blogger or article in your blog post, include a link to the information you are referencing. Not only is it good blogging etiquette, but you may also get lucky and receive a link back. Quality links are a valuable commodity for any site looking to rank higher in search engine results pages.

    5. Give readers the opportunity to subscribe to your blog. Include prominently placed RSS or Feed Subscription Buttons and offer viewers the ability to subscribe to your posts via email when possible. This allows your blog followers to have instant notification of your latest posts without having to periodically check your site for new content.

    6. Use social media to broaden the reach of your blog posts. As a small business, you may be utilizing Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or other social media sites to create connections with potential and current customers. Why not promote your blog content on these sites for even more web exposure? Free programs like Hootsuite make it easy to post links to your latest blog post on all of your social media sites with just a couple of clicks. You can even schedule your posts ahead of time!

    By following these simple SEO tips, you can encourage higher rankings in SERPS, increased web traffic, and higher customer conversion rates.
    Too busy to keep up with your blog optimization? Weve got you covered.

    55 Awesome Tips to increase your Traffic

     55 Awesome Tips to increase your Traffic

    1. If you absolutely MUST use Java script drop down menus, image maps or image links, be sure to put text links somewhere on the page for the spiders to follow.=

    2. Content is king, so be sure to have good, well-written and unique content that will focus on your primary keyword or keyword phrase.

    3. If content is king, then links are queen. Build a network of quality backlinks using your keyword phrase as the link. Remember, if there is no good, logical reason for that site to link to you, you dont want the link.

    4. Dont be obsessed with PageRank. It is just one isty bitsy part of the ranking algorithm. A site with lower PR can actually outrank one with a higher PR.

    5. Be sure you have a unique, keyword focused Title tag on every page of your site. And, if you MUST have the name of your company in it, put it at the end. Unless you are a major brand name that is a household name, your business name will probably get few searches.

    6. Fresh content can help improve your rankings. Add new, useful content to your pages on a regular basis. Content freshness adds relevancy to your site in the eyes of the search engines.

    7. Be sure links to your site and within your site use your keyword phrase. In other words, if your target is blue widgets then link to blue widgets instead of a Click here link.

    8. Focus on search phrases, not single keywords, and put your location in your text (our Palm Springs store not our store) to help you get found in local searches.

    9. Dont design your web site without considering SEO. Make sure your web designer understands your expectations for organic SEO. Doing a retrofit on your shiny new Flash-based site after it is built wont cut it. Spiders can crawl text, not Flash or images.

    10. Use keywords and keyword phrases appropriately in text links, image ALT attributes and even your domain name.

    11. Check for canonicalization issues www and non-www domains. Decide which you want to use and 301 redirect the other to it. In other words, if http://www.domain.com is your preference, then http://domain.com should redirect to it.

    12. Check the link to your home page throughout your site. Is index.html appended to your domain name? If so, youre splitting your links. Outside links go to http://www.domain.com and internal links go to http://www.domain.com/index.html.

    Ditch the index.html or default.php or whatever the page is and always link back to your domain.

    13. Frames, Flash and AJAX all share a common problem you cant link to a single page. Its either all or nothing. Dont use Frames at all and use Flash and AJAX sparingly for best SEO results.

    14. Your URL file extension doesnt matter. You can use .html, .htm, .asp, .php, etc. and it wont make a difference as far as your SEO is concerned.

    15. Got a new web site you want spidered? Submitting through Googles regular submission form can take weeks. The quickest way to get your site spidered is by getting a link to it through another quality site.

    16. If your site content doesnt change often, your site needs a blog because search spiders like fresh text. Blog at least three time a week with good, fresh content to feed those little crawlers.

    17. When link building, think quality, not quantity. One single, good, authoritative link can do a lot more for you than a dozen poor quality links, which can actually hurt you.

    18. Search engines want natural language content. Dont try to stuff your text with keywords. It wont work. Search engines look at how many times a term is in your content and if it is abnormally high, will count this against you rather than for you.

    19. Not only should your links use keyword anchor text, but the text around the links should also be related to your keywords. In other words, surround the link with descriptive text.

    20. If you are on a shared server, do a blacklist check to be sure youre not on a proxy with a spammer or banned site. Their negative notoriety could affect your own rankings.

    21. Be aware that by using services that block domain ownership information when you register a domain, Google might see you as a potential spammer.

    22. When optimizing your blog posts, optimize your post title tag independently from your blog title.

    23. The bottom line in SEO is Text, Links, Popularity and Reputation.

    24. Make sure your site is easy to use. This can influence your link building ability and popularity and, thus, your ranking.

    25. Give link love, Get link love. Dont be stingy with linking out. That will encourage others to link to you.

    26. Search engines like unique content that is also quality content. There can be a difference between unique content and quality content. Make sure your content is both.

    27. If you absolutely MUST have your main page as a splash page that is all Flash or one big image, place text and navigation links below the fold.

    28. Some of your most valuable links might not appear in web sites at all but be in the form of e-mail communications such as newletters and zines.

    29. You get NOTHING from paid links except a few clicks unless the links are embedded in body text and NOT obvious sponsored links.

    30. Links from .edu domains are given nice weight by the search engines. Run a search for possible non-profit .edu sites that are looking for sponsors.

    31. Give them something to talk about. Linkbaiting is simply good content.

    32. Give each page a focus on a single keyword phrase. Dont try to optimize the page for several keywords at once.

    33. SEO is useless if you have a weak or non-existent call to action. Make sure your call to action is clear and present.

    34. SEO is not a one-shot process. The search landscape changes daily, so expect to work on your optimization daily.

    35. Cater to influential bloggers and authority sites who might link to you, your images, videos, podcasts, etc. or ask to reprint your content.

    36. Get the owner or CEO blogging. Its priceless! CEO influence on a blog is incredible as this is the VOICE of the company. Response from the owner to reader comments will cause your credibility to skyrocket!

    37. Optimize the text in your RSS feed just like you should with your posts and web pages. Use descriptive, keyword rich text in your title and description.

    38. Use captions with your images. As with newspaper photos, place keyword rich captions with your images.

    39. Pay attention to the context surrounding your images. Images can rank based on text that surrounds them on the page. Pay attention to keyword text, headings, etc.

    40. Youre better off letting your site pages be found naturally by the crawler. Good global navigation and linking will serve you much better than relying only on an XML Sitemap.

    41. There are two ways to NOT see Googles Personalized Search results:

    (1) Log out of Google

    (2) Append &pws=0 to the end of your search URL in the search bar

    42. Links (especially deep links) from a high PageRank site are golden. High PR indicates high trust, so the back links will carry more weight.

    43. Use absolute links. Not only will it make your on-site link navigation less prone to problems (like links to and from https pages), but if someone scrapes your content, youll get backlink juice out of it.

    44. See if your hosting company offers Sticky forwarding when moving to a new domain. This allows temporary forwarding to the new domain from the old, retaining the new URL in the address bar so that users can gradually get used to the new URL.

    45. Understand social marketing. It IS part of SEO. The more you understand about sites like Digg, Yelp, del.icio.us, Facebook, etc., the better you will be able to compete in search.

    46. To get the best chance for your videos to be found by the crawlers, create a video sitemap and list it in your Google Webmaster Central account.

    47. Videos that show up in Google blended search results dont just come from YouTube. Be sure to submit your videos to other quality video sites like Metacafe, AOL, MSN and Yahoo to name a few.

    48. Surround video content on your pages with keyword rich text. The search engines look at surrounding content to define the usefulness of the video for the query.

    49. Use the words image or picture in your photo ALT descriptions and captions. A lot of searches are for a keyword plus one of those words.

    50. Enable Enhanced image search in your Google Webmaster Central account. Images are a big part of the new blended search results, so allowing Google to find your photos will help your SEO efforts.

    51. Add viral components to your web site or blog reviews, sharing functions, ratings, visitor comments, etc.

    52. Broaden your range of services to include video, podcasts, news, social content and so forth. SEO is not about 10 blue links anymore.

    53. When considering a link purchase or exchange, check the cache date of the page where your link will be located in Google. Search for cache:URL where you substitute URL for the actual page. The newer the cache date the better. If the page isnt there or the cache date is more than an month old, the page isnt worth much.

    54. If you have pages on your site that are very similar (you are concerned about duplicate content issues) and you want to be sure the correct one is included in the search engines, place the URL of your preferred page in your sitemaps.

    55. Check your server headers. Search for check server header to find free online tools for this. You want to be sure your URLs report a 200 OK status or 301 Moved Permanently for redirects. If the status shows anything else, check to be sure your URLs are set up properly and used consistently throughout your site.

    Search
