Once I downloaded a 7z file and it wouldnt open. First I thought that the archive was corrupted so I downloaded it from another mirror and I got the same error. Then I realised that Ubuntu doesnt come with support for .zip and .7z archives allthough Linux Mint does have support for .zip and .7z by default.
To open .zip and .7z archives in Ubuntu open terminal and type:
For .zip
sudo apt-get install unrar-free
For .7z
sudo apt-get install p7zip-full
These small things are annoying for beginners. Ill add them to my installscript for the next version of Ubuntu.
8 Gifts you can get the computer enthusiasts in your life that theyll appreciate
If you have someone in your life whose life revolves around their computer and you dont know what to give themthis is Uncle Toms list of 8 non-computer items a computer enthusiast will find helpful.

Ive used computers personally for close to 30 years now. This is what Id find useful as a gift:

1. Brother P-Touch labeler and extra batteries and label tape. The enthusiast will have lots of items that look identical and theyll need to know which one is which. Your gift helps distinguish them at a glance.
2. Power strip. You can never have enough outlets. Get one with a long cord, too.
3. A shredder that can handle DVDs and CDs.
4. A $50 Amazon gift card. Theyll need to order something after the holidays.
5. Stand alone physical kitchen timer with a loud annoying bell. This is for when theyre engrossed on-line, yet doing laundry or cooking at the same time.
6. Ream of copy paper. Occasionally theyll need to print something. Sometimes theyll even need to print it on nice paper for someone else to look at.
7. A box of Zip-Loc style bags and a box of snap-top containers. This goes well with Present #1.The enthusiast will have lots of small items they need to keep separate from each other.
8. A box of personalized Post-It or Sticky type notes. The P-Touch is for permanent labeling situations. Your enthusiasts will need to make quick temporary notes on many occasions.

5 Mahaniyom Nichkhun top tweeter in Thailand eng translations ♪ Nichkhun
Its a TV show in Thailand that talks about the cyber world. And the topic for this episode is Twitter. They have been asked to rank from the most to the least followers on Twitter in the given choices. These were the choices:
1. Thaksin Chinawatra (ex-prime minister in thailand) 2. Abhisit Vejjajiva (current prime minister in thailand) 3. Woh Vajira Medhi (famous monk of thailand) 4. Woody 5. Nichkhun
But then the ranking went something like this.. (from the least to the most) In 5th place was Thaksin In 4th place was Abhisit In 3rd place is Vajira Medhi In 2nd place is Woody In 1st place with the MOST followers in Thailand is Nichkhun.
And also just a fact: Nichkhuns ranked the 4th most wanted to do a CF, and his renumeration is around 700,000,000 million won per CF.
We live in a world where any extraordinary event captured on video must be viewed with mind of a skeptic. This once-in-a-lifetime video, I choose to watch with my heart.
Murmuration from Sophie Windsor Clive on Vimeo.
The creative collaboration of the starlings is awe inspiring. On top of that, the willingness of the videographers Liberty Smith and Sophie Windsor Clive to release the video with Creative Commons license; and the open sharing of the original music by Emmett Glynn and Band, make my sharing soul smile.
Flocking behaviour has evolved in fish and birds to a level we as human beings can only hope to emulate. Still, I cant help but wonder what might be possible if teachers and students could mimic the murmuration of starlings. This video provides a powerful metaphor for how willing collaboration, distributed leadership, and shared responsibility can bring our classrooms to life.
A little exercise about a recent forum question input field handling in awk and Perl
Just recently the following question was posted to the UNIX scripting group in Linkedin: remove all duplicate entries in a colon separated list of strings e.g. a: b:c: b: d:a:a: b:e::f should be transformed to a: b:c: d:e::f
Some of the fields contain spaces which should be preserved in the output of course, there is an empty field too which (to me and other authors) indicates that the fields are not necessarily ordered. Here I wont discuss the suggested solutions, I also did not answer to the original posting because I read it one month too late.
awk But when reading the question my brain already got working and I could not help to try for myself. The obvious tool of choice for exercises like this is awk because awk has inbuilt mechanisms for viewing lines as a sequence of fields with configurable field separators.
A solution could be
BEGIN { FS=":" ; # field separator ORS=":" # output record separator } { for(i=1;i<=NF;i++) { # for all input fields if( f[$i] ) { # check if array entry for field already exists continue; # if yes: go to next field } else { print $i; # if no: print the field content f[$i] = 1; # and record it in array f } } } which leads to this output: a: b:c: d:e::f:
The script can be shortened by omitting superfluous braces and else to
The script uses a very simple straightforward logic: loop through all input fields, if a field is new then print it, if not skip it. This is achieved by storing each field in an associated array f when it first occurs. Using the field separator FS for splitting the input line and the output record separator ORS when printing (you need to know that print automatically adds ORS) makes this an easy task.
There is one issue though: this solution adds an extra colon at the very end (compared to the requested output), this could be an issue or not depending on the context of this request so one might prefer this code:
BEGIN { FS=":" } { printf $1; f[$1]=1; for(i=2;i<=NF;i++) { if(f[$i]) continue; f[$i]=1; printf FS $i } } which uses a slightly different logic: the first field is printed straight away (and recorded), the loop checks the remaining fields 2..NF and prints the field separator as a prefix to the field content. This code also works for the extreme case where there is just one field and no colon.
Perl I then wondered if this couldnt be done equivalently or even shorter in Perl but my best solution is a little bit lengthier because I have to use split to get the individual fields.
$FS=":"; @s = split($FS,<>); for($i=0;$i<=$#s;$i++) {$e=$s[$i]; next if(exists($f{$e})); $f{$e}=1; print $e,$FS } I could have used command line options "-a -F:" to avoid the split but I need FS to be defined anyway for the output (I dont know if the split pattern defined by -F can be accessed in Perl). I use split to chop up the input line and put it into an array s. Then the same logic applies as in awk. Instead of an associative array Im using a hash table f in Perl. The variable e is only used to avoid repeated occurances of $s[$i]. In the end tits a matter of personal preference which solution you take.
It should be noted that I tested with
echo -n "...." | awk ... or perl -e ...
which feeds a string without newline to the pipe which helped to avoid chomp in Perl for removing the newline in the last field.
Rating: 2.25/5 Banners: Lakshmi Ganapathi Films, Red Giant Movies Cast: Suriya, Shruti Haasan, Johnny Tri and others Music: Harris Jayaraj Cinematographer: Ravi K Chandran Editing: Antony Story, screenplay, direction: A R Murugadoss Producers: Rupesh, Balasubramaniam, Udhayanidhi Release date: 26/10/2011 The combination of Suriya and director Murugadoss is back and this time they have delved upon a story of the past and the link of science with history. Let us see how good that is. Story: In the 16th century, a Pallava king Boddhidharma (Suriya) sets on a journey to China. He is endowed with martial arts, art of healing and also the indomitable control over the five elements. After reaching China, he heals a village of a sickness and due to the locals belief, he sacrifices his life and is buried there. Cut to the present, there is Aravind (Suriya), a circus artiste who comes across Shuba (Shruti) a genetic research student and falls in love with her. However, Shuba gets friendly with Aravind for a reason. Meanwhile, a Chinese named Dong Lee (Johnny Tri) comes to India and his mission is to kill Shuba. Who is Aravind? Why Shuba wants to be friendly with him? Why Dong Lee comes to kill Shuba? All this forms the rest of the story.
Performances:Suriya spreads his charm once again and he is all over the film. More than his regular role as Aravind, it was his brief role as Boddhidharma that creates a strong impact.
Shruti Haasan looks naturally beautiful and has a magical glint in her eyes. She has a meaty role and she did justice for that. If she adds few extra pounds she will be very appealing.
Johnny Tri was excellent. His intense eyes and his body language were menacing. Without many dialogues, he conveys the essence of a villain in the right manner.
Dhanya was alright, Guinness Pakru was a little silly, Avinash was apt, Abhinaya was hardly there, Ashwin was alright, Raghavendra came and went. The others didnt have much to offer.
Highlights:
Concept of the film
Suriyas performance
Technical and production values
Climax fight sequence
Drawbacks:
Slow pace
Weak romance track
Dragged sequences
Lack of intensity and emotional depth
Music
Analysis: Murugadoss has mixed a bit of factual history to modern science in this. For starters, he must be really appreciated for coming up with a bold theme and making an attempt to show the great history and great men of our nation. However, there is a fine line between picking up a good concept and executing it with the right voltage. If it was not for Suriyas aura and the strong technical values, the film would have been bland. This movie appears to be the idea of an A grade director executed by a B-grade director. Generally people expect something more sensible from Murugudoss. But that lacked here. First half is ok but the second half got derailed. Murugudoss made vain attempt to bring grip in narration due to lack of proper research. Even Operation Red idea became silly. The climax is very long with 40 minutes and that itself shows how bad the screenplay is. It can be said that there is no directorial brilliance as the plot was predictable and all that is required was to fill the two hours plus duration. There is no doubt that this is a rather unique storyline in the recent times but if only it was trimmed in the right manner and some dose of emotion and dramatic values were added to it, the film would have been a success. At the box office, the openings will be good but audience is advised to step into the theatres without high expectations. Overall, this would not make any positive impact at box office. . Bottomline: Beautiful thought, bad execution
99 Percent Luna Maya and Cut Tary Similar in sex video with Ariel

1. Avoid anchors I hear a lot of people saying that the Sensex P/E at 18x is cheap as it is at the same level as the last few years average P/E. Basing your investment decisions on the Sensex P/E can be dangerous, as this is just an anchor that tells us how much people are willing to pay for the top 30 stocks on an average, not whether the stock you are eyeing is cheap or expensive. Even when the Sensex P/E stands at 18x now, a lot of stocks are trading at 50-60x and a lot at 5-6x, so ignore this number. Also, looking at average Sensex P/E is illogical as the average is artificially higher owing to the bubble of 2007-08. You must also not give much weight to a stocks P/E in basing your investment decision. Its more important to look at the underlying business and whether it is great, good, or gruesome as per Buffetts standards. Another anchor to avoid is the stock price itself, especially given that prices have moved sharply in the past 2-3 months. Remember that a stock does not become a buy/sell just because it has fallen/risen from a certain price. 2. Avoid arrogance I see a lot of my trader and investor friends feeling a lot better after the gains theyve made over the past three months. They are confusing luck and bull market with brains and skilland would do well to remember that a good performance in the short term has serious limitations as a basis for estimating long term results. If you are sailing in the same boat, you would do well to remember Charlie Mungers advice to maintain intellectual humility amidst heady gains
Stay within a well-defined circle of competence
Identify and reconcile disconfirming evidence
Resist the craving for false precision, false certainties, etc.
Above all, never fool yourself, and remember that you are the easiest person to fool
Understanding both the power of compound interest and the difficulty of getting it is the heart and soul of understanding a lot of things.
What is more, despite all excitement about Sensex @ 21,000, its important to understand that this market is sitting on a much fragile base than when Sensex touched 21,000 in January 2008. This is thanks to an overdose of cheap money that has inflated bubbles around the world, and especially in emerging market stocks. When these bubbles will burst is anybodys guess, but you may call the US Federal Reserve for clarifications, or CNBC office for their predictions. 3. Avoid cheap stocks India has many more zombie companies sitting on high debt without much cash to survive and without much new business coming in today than in 2008. So the probability of romancing a value trap is high. Thus, be very-very careful while buying cheap stuff, like stocks at 52-week lows. Things sometimes get cheap for valid reasonsand cheap often gets cheaper. So avoid the obviously bad businesses, even if they look cheap. If you need some hints of what kind of businesses to avoid and what would happen if you dont avoid them, look at this chart
Remember what Buffett said Time is the friend of the wonderful business, the enemy of the mediocre. Avoid the mediocre businesses even if they are available cheap (like at <5x font="" p="">5x> Such businesses are not just terrible investments for you, but also a major distraction that would cost you in terms of opportunity cost. 4. Avoid multi-bagger ideas I hear that a lot of stock brokers are shutting shop for the lack of business. In fact, as per the SEBI, around 500 brokers have officially shut shop since April 2013. They say investors are not investing while they must say traders are not trading. Anyways, helped by this Sensex @ 21,000 bait, a lot of brokers and stocks tippers are calling me to sell their trading or research services. One is in fact guaranteeing (not on paper) to earn me Rs 1,000 per day in profit! If you are also receiving such calls or emails where you are promised multi-bagger returns, simply say thank you and turn them away. They may have their targets to meet so dont scold them. Just say a polite no. 5. Avoid predictions Given that the stock market (read, Sensex) has gone nowhere over the past five years, some sane minds are pronouncing long term equity investing as dead (again!). Then there are many who have raised their Sensex targets to 22,000 or 23,000. Avoid any such predictions. They are just baits to invite you to part away with your money.
Did you notice that the instance we are currently considering "proper content" is in the frozen cold north? With lots of frost attacks and cold things and ice and such?
Even though it completely ruins immersion - it really makes me want to go there!
I already install Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on my PC, and I founded a (non critical) bug. Kubuntu 9.04 that using KDE 4.2.2 desktop is a wonderful and elegance distro. I really enjoy to explore the desktop and the whole applications inside Kubuntu. I always enjoy explore Kubuntu until I got a little and non critical bug.
When I go to the Dolphin file manager and I want to look at /root disk usage properties, the Dolphin file manager will be error. I try to look the /root disk usage properties by right-click at /root directory, and choose properties.
Its not a big trouble but its feels uncomfort to me because I want to add some other optional applications such as image editors, multimedia, games and the others.
Because of this bug, I use shell disk usage monitor by konsole x terminal :
alwan@alwan-desktop:~$ df -h
I will be so happy if the great KDEs development team would fix this bug in the next KDE 4 releases.
Thank you so much to the (K)ubuntu development team and many others wonderful Linux developer .
Happy Tux-ing !

A Few Things This Week In Gaming Saturday July 11th 2015 Some Gaming News Bits
Ive had a lot happen this week [including going to the Hospital!] and havent been able to finish any of the many posts I am working on at the moment, but I wanted to quickly mention a couple little tidbits of Gaming that have either happened this Week or is going on this very Weekend...
Trove is out of Beta and was fully Released just two days ago! I was in the Closed Beta after buying a starter/support pack of in-game Credits and was enjoying the Open Beta off and on. Similar to games like Cubeworld, Minecraft or Lego Worlds, its a fun little game with a large, explorable MMO world that has Monsters and Crafting and Building to do everywhere, with RPG elements (levelling up a character, classes to choose from with various abilities, etc). I am working on a First Impressions And Screenshots article for it [that I started in the Beta] and hope to get that done Soon. Try it out at: http://www.trionworlds.com/trove/2015/07/09/trove-launch-the-adventure-begins/
Marvel Heroes is having a major giveaway [which is more of a Sweepstakes, in my opinion, since its not a simple here, you have to hunt for it] where playing the game and finding Drops has a chance of winning you $5000 (there are only five prizes available). Check it out at: https://marvelheroes.com/news/news-articles/marvel-heroes-2015-25000-giveaway
For those that played Battlefield Play4Free, just a reminder that this coming Tuesday is the Last Ever day for BFP4F. Ive given away a couple of Play4Free Funds codes here at The Blog [that EA had given out] and also noticed that EA has lowered the Deal Again price for The Daily Draw way down to 99 Funds - super cheap, if youre sitting on leftover Funds in that game. Get over there and get some new gear while you can at: http://battlefield.play4free.com/
And of course, some Deals and Sales are going on at various companies/websites this Weekend. I sometimes post when some Sales are going on, but not all the time - and this weekend I can see Steam has some Deals going on and Good Old Games [now GOG.com] has a nice Weekend Deal that includes Series of many games, like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Hitman - ooh, I might pick up Urban Chaos for a buck-ninety-nine... See if you find anything you want here: http://www.gog.com/promo/weekend_promo_square_enix_100715
Oh, Ive uploaded a couple more videos at The Game Tips And More Blogs Plays.Tv page, including "Part 2" of a Minecraft Playthrough I call "To The End", where I play up to The End area/stage in Minecraft, but not further - I dont want to spoil the ending [as much as it is an ending] for the game, but Ill play and record completely up to that point - creating a New World every version/update [something I started back in Beta, but lost most of the past videos for, unfortunately]. There are also some Battlefield: Hardline clips (a Tutorial and Living The Dream), Hitman Series clips (some Glitches and Speedruns), a couple of Trove vids (with a short Tutorial one) and more. Check it out sometime, at: http://plays.tv/u/GameTipsAndMore
These are just a few things that are going on... but thats it for me, for now - See You In The Games!
Be it Ubuntu or any other platform, one thing I learned over the years is the fact that people like to download their favorite YouTube videos and would want to keep a local copy of it no matter how hard it is. Luckily, there are plenty of tools to do this in Ubuntu without any hassles. Here, well explore 5 of the most capable YouTube video downloading tools for Ubuntu.
Minitube: When it comes to "conventional" YouTube video streaming and downloading in Ubuntu, nothing beats Minitube. You can type any keyword, and Minitube will give you an endless stream of videos to watch, as simple as that. Minitube does not use the Flash Player either, which means lesser CPU consumption. And of course you can download videos in the quality you choose with the click of a button. What more, Minitube is available for download in default Ubuntu repositories (Edit: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS supported). Click the link above.
Youtube-dl: Command line tools are a big no-no to many. But I would argue otherwise. Youtube-dl is the best and easiest way to download YouTube videos in Ubuntu. It is fast and obviously nimble. And make no mistake, it has quite a wide range of functionalities. But if all you need is to download the best quality version of a particular video, open up the Terminal and type "youtube-dl<space><link to the video>". Does that look complicated? A more detailed installation and how-to-use instructions can be found in our previous post on Youtube-dl.
Gmediafinder: A good Minitube alternative loaded with YouTube streaming and downloading capabilities. In my experience, Minitube has been more stable and a little bit more easier to use when compared Gmediafinder. But it gets the job done. To install it though, you have to add the following PPA and it is not readily available in Ubuntu Software Center (Ubuntu 12.04, Ubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 13.04 supported). Just do the following in Terminal.
Movegrab: Yet another command-line tool for downloading YouTube videos in Ubuntu. Somehow, I am finding it difficult to download YouTube specific videos using Movgrab at the moment, even though I didnt had any problem with sites like Dailymotion. Many consider Movgrab to be a superior alternative to my favorite Youtube-dl. More details and how-to-use instructions on Movgrab at WebUpd8. Do the following in Terminal to install Movgrab.
YouTube Downloader Script: Heres a simple cross-browser script that will add a download button to the YouTube page, literally. It will let you download your favorite videos in MP4 format (HD, Full HD and even 4K supported). See installation instructions below,
For Firefox: You need to download Greasemonkey extension for Firefox first. Afterwards, simply visit the script download page and install it. For Chrome/Chromium: Install Tampermonkey extension first. And then, like before, visit the script download page and hit Install button on top.
Make no mistake, almost all the tools featured above (except the cross-browser script) does support other popular sites like Dailymotion, Vimeo, Metacafe, Liveleak, Blip.tv etc. apart from YouTube. Try them out and let us know your feedback. Thanks for reading.
Usually, car audio systems like CD player or cassette player have good audio amplifiers, with four channels (front L/R and rear L/R) of enough power for in home use. The radio tuner is also of high quality, with automatic best frequency selection and RDS information. Not all car audio systems have audio auxiliary inputs, although with a little tweaking, you can add audio line level inputs to a cassette player so you can use it as audio amplifier with any audio source.
There are plenty of how-to's about this subject online. Yet I couldn't find one that handles the memory loss problem. Car audios are designed to be continuously powered by the battery. Therefore, most don't have a permanent storage memory for settings. Upon disconnecting the power, the device loses all audio settings and stored radio stations.
This article will deal with the memory loss problem. Unless you will never unplug the DC adapter from the mains, you will need something similar to what follows if you want to use a car audio device in home. Let's start with the basics.
